The Worlds Best Quotes: I'd Rather See a Sermon

The Worlds Best Quotes: I'd Rather See a Sermon: I’d rather see a sermon than to hear one any day; I’d rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way. The eye’s a better pupil ...

So give us an answer, won't you?

Lord is it Mine

I know that there's a reason why I need to be alone

I know that there's a silent place that I can call my own

Is it mine?

Oh, Lord, is it mine?

You know I get so weary from the battles in this life

And as many times it seems that you're the only hope in sight Is it mine?

Oh, Lord, is it mine?

When everything's dark, and nothing seems right,

You don't have to win, and there's no need to fight

I never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land

But it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand

Is it mine?

Oh, Lord, is it mine?

When everything's dark, and nothing seems right,

You don't have to win, and there's no need to fight

If only I could find a way

To feel your sweetness through the day

The love that shines around me could be mine

So give us an answer, won't you?

We know what we have to do

There must be a thousand voices trying to get through

Ruby and my Frankie

Best buddies, they choose to snuggle together in a dog bed/crate that I usually save for dogs smaller than either of them.

Thanks to Amazon Prime Big Deal Days I can now show you a squirrel. Yay me!

Picked up a GardPro A3 Trail Camera for $60 (regular $100). Just playing around so far but hope to share some decent wildlife captures in the near future. Not that squirrels aren't just amazing!

10,000 km

Bought my 2010 Mazda Tribute (aka Ford Escape) 17 months ago. I just went over the 10k mark. About 588 km/month. Didn't seem like I drove that much.

Toronto Maple Leafs Bobby Baun vs Mitch Marner

Bobby Baun
On April 23, 1964, having fractured his ankle earlier in the game, he returned in overtime and scored the game-winning goal to even the best-of-seven series at 3-3. The Leafs won the next game 4–0 to secure their third consecutive Stanley Cup championship.

Mitch Marner
On March 14, 2024, having sprained his ankle left the game. And he missed the next 6 games and counting.

Baun earned $50,000 per season in 1964 (value of $500,500 in 2024), an era of no salary cap. Marner gets $8M per season.

Maybe this isn’t a fair comparison. Maybe it doesn’t really compare apples to apples so to speak. But I think it does illustrate one difference in professional hockey from today to 60 years ago. Personally, I feel players in that era were tougher, certainly less pampered, than many of today’s players.

March has been a big reading month for me

I don't remember any month that I've read so much, not even back in my high school days. Although, if you knew me in high school that wouldn't come as much of a surprise. This month I completed:
1) The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett. 900 pages.
2) The Pillars of the Earth, also by Ken. Over 1,000 pages and, if you've read it, you know it was about 200 pages more than needed.
3) Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena. 352 pages.
4) Standing in the Shadows by Peter Robinson. 268 pages.

I've also been wading through Shanghai Grand by Taras Grescoe, and My Effin' Life by Geddy Lee. Both I intend to finish but I'm in no hurry.

While I generally like historical fiction, going forward I'm going to try to stick to novels in the 300 to 500 page range. More than that and I find I start to lose interest. Although that didn't happen with Ken Follett's The Evening and the Morning.

Happy reading.

Too rich for me…

I suppose price increases, are the name of the game these days. And I understand that to a point. But I think @Ancestry has gone a little beyond what's acceptable… at least for me.

Shanghai Grand by Taras Grescoe

Just borrowed this novel from the Oshawa Library. Looking forward to read it as my father was born and grew up in Shanghai during the pre WW II period.

Have to admit that my favourite thing about my Apple Watch is the ever changing Snoopy watch face. A new smile every time 😊

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Saw this hoodie being worn by a young person at a local Starbucks… took me back to 1976 when Rocky Horror opened at the Roxy in Toronto. That's when I learned Meatloaf was more than just one of my favourite foods.

At the Gens game with my grandson

Here's me and my grandson enjoying the Oshawa Generals game today (5-0 win over Windsor). Shout out to the kindest fan who was hit in the stands by a puck, then gave it to my grandson.
Gens fans rock! ❤️🤍💙

Changing My Life in 2024 Through Minimalism

New Year's resolutions aren't usually my thing, and I'm not sure 2024 is any different. I have decided to actively adopt a minimalist lifestyle, but I think it was just time — and that time just happened to coincide with New Years…so let's call it a resolution, why not?

The only plan was to declutter my living space… a one bedroom basement apartment with a dry kitchen, a 3 piece bath, and a utility/storage area. Basically I set about ridding myself of excess furniture and any items that I haven't used in the past year. I think that included 80% of what was in my designated kitchen area. I had to adjust the plan a bit when it came to my DVD, CD, cassette tape, and vinyl record collections. Basically I only retained ones I reasonably thought I would watch/listen to again. So now I'm down to a couple dozen DVDs, about 30 CDs, 10 cassette tapes, and 50+ records. A few record albums made it more for the quality of the album art than the music. Some early album art is simply fabulous!

I hadn't thought about limiting my digital footprint because that primarily existed in the cloud anyway. Then I thought about the money I was wasting on under utilized subscriptions and quickly identified three I could probably live without. I mean how many shows/movies/podcasts/etc can one person watch and still remain sane?

So (initially) my YouTube, Amazon Prime, and CBC Gem subscriptions have been eliminated. And I feel better already!

I think I'm going to really enjoy minimalism as I continue to become more immersed in the lifestyle. Really looking forward to where this takes me in 2024!
